Travelling to the Three Valleys for Half Term?

Although not great for the independent ski chalet companies, flights for the week of Half Term are currently sky high! So when EasyJet say ‘Book a Cheap Flight’ they are telling porky pies!

You are currently looking at 85 Euros – 230 Euros one way to Geneva from London. Flying into Lyon is currently cheaper with costs ranging from 100 – 150 Euros one way.

Why not consider travelling to the Three Valleys for yourski holiday in the following ways:

  • COACH all the way from London, Dover or Folkestone to Les Menuires

The current price for this return journey for Half Term Snow Express Coach to the Alpsweek is £165pp. The added benefit is that there is no extra charges or limits on luggage, ski bags, boot bags etc. If you think you can handle an overnight coach service to get you to resort early afternoon on the Saturday 11th, then I would definitely suggest this cost-effective solution. • TRAIN from London St Pancras to Moutiers.

The current price for this return journey for Half Term week is £339p. There are less than 10 seats available for the morning train left so book NOW! www.eurostar.com

  •  DRIVE across France to the Three Valleys in the Alps

Depending on your group size, this is definitely as viable option, as you are looking at a cost of 500 Euros return for a full car (standard 5 seater). Crossings available from Dover, Portsmouth, Le Havre and others. One of the benefits of driving to the alps means that you can put everything into your car and not worry about any queues (other than on the road perhaps!), extra charges for luggage and sports bags etc

Ski Accommodation: Independent & Owner-Run Vs All-Inclusive Package

There are many reports that have been released over the past few years on independent, DIY ski holidays versus package holidays. According to the Crystal ski industry report that came out this year, there was c. 400,000 people in 2007/08 ski season who booked with independent accommodation. Last year this figure dropped to 280,000 people. The obvious reason for people booking with tour operators who offer inclusive deals is due to the current economic austerity. So apparently the package holiday companies are fighting back, but in this blog I will put across the case for sticking with the independent companies that provide catered chalet accommodation. Our wine tasting in Domaine de L’Idylle, Chignin SAVOIE

As you may know, we take a huge amount of time and effort in choosing our wines for our chalets in the Winter season. We are very proud to be using a fantastic partner who provides the majority of our wines, Domaine de L’Idylle. Philippe and Francois Tiollier are two brothers who live and breathe wine-making in the Savoie, and have done so for over 40 years. We buy directly from the vineyard and visit them regularly to try their delicious wines and see what may be suitable for our menus. [Read more...]
